I've been quiet online for a little bit! Over the past few months quite alot has been going on, firstly went back to the UK for my mums 70th, (god she looks good for her age!) Then after my holiday things started to rev up with a comic book i've been lucky enough to work on. Once i've been given the ok i'd love to show what i've been up to, but won't be for a while! In the meantime heres a smaller series i'm trying to get out on of city sketches. This one is of King Street, Newtown and there will be more to come by the end of the year!
Stadium Stomp - Killer of legs
Not an art related post but i'm bloody happy to have done Stadium Stomp today! Stadium stomp is a fitness event for charity where you climb stadium stairs. This morning I took part in the Sydney event, climbing 6300 stairs around ANZ and SCG stadium. Ah man my legs are killing me now! But it was an awesome event and definitely a fitness challenge. God i'm legs are on fire now!! :-)
Lost in Venice
Hey there, heres a look at a new piece i've been working on. Prints will be available soon :-)
Reworking an old image
I was looking back at my old portfolio and thought this image deserved a revamp. There are elements in the original image that just look wrong and I thought i'd try to go back and save it. Here you can see the old image on the left and the reworked version on the right. I use to use found textures in my images, which I don't do any more plus the her face and legs looked weird! Whats going on with that nose! I've redrawn bits of the image plus given the colours another look and happy to add this piece back into my portfolio.
Avant Card Postcards
I'm excited to get my Avant Card Postcards! About 5 months ago my artwork was accepted to be printed by Avant Cards on their emerging artist free postcards. I'm looking forward to finding these around town in their distribution outlets! They look great, the print has come out so well and the guys were lovely, matching the back with the colours on the front! A big thank you to Avant Cards!!
Game of Thrones Character Set
Here's a look at the Game of Thrones Character Set. Let me know if you can name them all!
Game of Thrones
I've been asked to development a character set of Game of Thrones Characters! I'm a fan of both the books and the show so this is a great project to be part of. I'll have to get round to putting in my favourite characters, (i'm a big fan of Davos, Brienne, Thoros of Myr and Yara Greyjoy ha just to name a few!) At the moment i'm trying to work through the main characters in each of the houses, to say the least there's a lot!! :-)
Heres the first look at Arya Stark and Cersi Lannister. Lots more to do! I'll be back with more shortly :-)
Winter Magic in the Blue Mountains
Ah I love the Blue Mountains, especially Katoomba! This weekend we went up to Katoomba for the Winter Magic Festival. It was a great weekend and awesome to see all the wizards! We stayed in a fantastic house and kept warm by the fire. On Saturday evening the mist crept in, by Sunday you couldn't see anything, really surreal! I could live up here - amazing people and such a beautiful place!
Silver Jewellery Making Course
Had a great day at Sydney Community College attending a silver ring making jewellery course! We learnt the whole process from mark making and soldering to shaping the metal and making our own ring that we could take home! Ok admittedly my ring was meant to be for my middle finger but its a bit large so now it can be a thumb ring! Really great to try something complete different and learn a few new skills!
Character sketches
At the moment i'm working on my character development. With the possibility of working on a children's book and comic this year, I want to keep practicing how my characters look, making sure they have personality and seeing if I can carry the same character through various moods.
Junkyard Lizards
New print! Still going to re-working a few parts of this image but happy with how this is turning out. Once the hands are sorted i'll get this print up for sale on Inprnt!
ARTEXPRESS
ArtExpress at NSW gallery has showcased students artwork that I think is being assessed for their HSC. I was curious to see the new artwork and it was great to see the wide range of different approaches and to get an insight into new creativity! There was such a high standard of work and I was taken back by the how skilled the photography was and also the technical ability and talent shown for illustration and fine art!
Sydney Sketch Club - Enmore
Out and about with the guys from Sydney Sketch Club. This time we were sketching on Enmore Road. I normally forget to take photos but this time I remembered! I enjoy drawing urban environments and its great to get out and sketch in a group. It also amazes me how many people talk to you when you're drawing. Its really nice how people of all ages can be really friendly and happy to have a chat when you're sketching.
Stef at work!
Stef works as a steel metal fabricator. This basically means if you want something made out of steel - he's your man!! He took on a project for my work at Bench Creative, to make some bespoke office tables for the studio and the end result was fantastic! I had to put some images up as it was amazing to see him plan out the initial drawings and take this through to the final product, also his work place has some fantastic steampunk machinery.
I loved seeing the process and also understanding how much talent, knowledge and skill it takes! I'm very lucky to be with such a talented chap!
Raining Stars
Having a look at animated gifs! Just playing around with a new image and looking into adding movement to images!
Punkulture
Today I went along to Sun Studios to see the Punkulture exhibition. Andrian Boot's images are so iconic! Not only are there photos of bands like The Buzzcocks and The Ramones but also ones of the crowds and you really get the feeling of the overall attitude. I've loved the music and the fashion since I was a teen and remember having postcards of the Sex Pistols pinned up in my school desk and of course had Anarchy symbols doodled on my all my school books! If you haven't been yet, its definitely worth a look!
The crooked house
This piece has been a personal project, looking at buildings with their own personality. I like having the opportunity to create my own artwork and this is when you can explore other techniques and this can then translate into commissioned pieces.
In a fantasy world
After the top down view game play tokens, i'm looking to create a series of character artwork pieces. These will be released later on in the year. Here's a look at how things are progressing!
20th Biennale of Sydney
The Biennale events in Sydney have been great to see and I loved going to Cockatoo Island to see the Embassy of the Real. The artwork here is exploring how we perceive reality. Cockatoo Island is a brilliant site for this, its great to roam around the island and find artwork in unusual locations.
Tokens
Woo 24 images done! This has been a fun project, now time to celebrate!
