I love it when I get different projects and this was one of them! I've been asked to help create a series of tokens. For starters it's really different drawing from a birds eye view and understanding the perspective. At first I thought this wouldn't be too tricky but it's been a lot harder than I thought and a great project to be involved on!
Another hot day
It's been a hot summer so far! This piece has been inspired by the need for cool and comfortable summer nights.
Lego & comics! The Art of the Brick!
Awesome to go to The Art of Brick and see lego versions of DC Comics characters. Lego artist Nathan Sawaya uses million bricks to create sculptures of comic book heroes and villains.
Setting Sun
I've been living in Sydney's Inner West for about four years and where we live now, is such an awesome place! This image has definitely been inspired from sitting on our balcony and watching the world go by.
Llewllyn Garden
I always notice this backyard and it called out to be used in an image. What I enjoyed with this layout was the lighting. When images are set at night or dusk, its interesting to work out where there will be spots of colour and what the palette will be.
Travels to Tourmaline
Most of my characters have a basis in reality, the people who are a big part of my life usually appear in some shape or form! The girl in this image is loosely based on myself, which is a first for me. But more importantly the penguin is real and has travelled with me for many years!
Years ago, I read Tourmaline by Randolph Stow. It's a story about a diviner who stumbles across a small town in the Australian outback. It is a place of heat and dust. When I remember this book, I think of the hazy atmosphere as well as the dream-like strangeness of being in a foreign place, which is why it is the inspiration for title of this image.
Hey there!
Thanks for having a look at my blog! I'll be posting news on my artwork and other bits-n-bobs I find interesting. I'm originally from the UK and grew up on the South Coast. While I was working in London I met an Ozzie and before you knew it he had whisked me over to Australia! Five years on and we are still loving Sydney and our life in the Inner West. A lot of my artwork has roots in my surroundings and if you know the local area you may recognise a few places. I hope you enjoy my work and i'm always happy to answers any questions you have. Thanks again!
